Remembrance Of Death

For almost 30 years it has been the practice of this servant to listen to the biographies, sayings or generally understood compilations of his elders in the gathering after the, 'Asr salaah. The reason fordoing so is that during this time besides the daily average of 30 to 40 visitors the local people also come. Hence, it is may heart's desire that some of the jewels of these elders fall on their ears which would benefit them in both the worlds. This servant does not know how to deliver lectures and does not desire to waste his time in futile talk.

It is not only good conviction, but rather, it is a reality that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta 'aala through His Bounty and Grace had given these elders a complete portion in following the Sunnah of Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Those who are well aware of the life, practices and sayings of Prophet (Sallullahu Alaihi Wasallam) and who participated in the gathering of these elders for a few days will themselves realise this fact. The sayings of these elders are pieces of jewels and their silence a means of internal (spiritual) progress.

A life of Piety

A life of Piety
by Shaykh Hakeem Muhammad Akhtar (Raheemahullah)

Some people regard the urge to sin to be contrary to piety. They remain in complete anxiety due to these urges. Shaytan misleads led them by saying that a person can never become a saint if he has these urges. How many ignorant ones have not been able to differentiate between the urge to sin and sin itself. Due to this, they lose all hope, fulfill their urges and become deprived of the proximity of the Creator.....

Combating the Whisperings of Shaytaan

Combating the Whisperings of Shaytaan
Shaykh Yunus Patel (Raheemahulla)

“And say : My Lord! I seek refuge with You from the whisperings (suggestions) of the Shayateen. And I seek refuge with You, my Lord, lest they may attend (or come near) me.” ( Surah Al-Mu`minoon 23 : 97/98 )

In the scheme of creation, Allah Ta’ala created the earth as the battlefield between Hazrat Adam (‘Alaihis Salaam), his children, and Shaytaan and his progeny.

The intense hatred and inbred enmity of Shaytaan for us, the progeny of Hazrat Adam (‘Alaihis Salaam), stems from him having been rejected and cursed by Allah Ta’ala for defying and challenging Allah Ta’ala and refusing to make sajda to Sayyedena Adam (‘Alaihis Salaam). In the course of Shaytaan’s deadly and ruthless revenge, a relentless battle between these two forces ensues till Qiyaamah.

By Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah

Patience, or patient perseverance, is obligatory, according to the consensus of the scholars, and it is half of faith (îmân), the other half of which is gratitude (shukr). Patience is mentioned in the Qur’ân around ninety times.

This book has been written to highlight the urgent need for patience, and to explain that our happiness in this life and our salvation in the hereafter depends on patience.

Shari'at & Tasawwuf

by Maseehul Ummat, Maulana Mohammed Maseehullah Khan Sherwaani
one of the greatest of authorities in Tasawwuf of our times

THE NATURE OF TASAWWUF The department of the Shariat relating to a’male batini (esoteric acts or states of the heart) is called Tasawwuf and Suluk; and, the department of the Shariat relating to a’male zahiri (exoteric acts or physical acts) is called Fiqh. The subject matter dealt with by Tasawwuf is tahtheebe akhlaq or the adornment of character while the motive of this branch of the Shariat is the attainment of Divine Pleasure. The method of acquisition of this Divine Pleasure is total obedience to the commands of the Shariat.

Tasawwuf in fact is the rooh (soul) and state of perfection of the Deen. Its function is to purify the batin (the heart) of man from the lowly bestial attributes of lust, calamities of the tongue, anger, malice, jealousy, love of the world, love for fame, niggardliness, greed, ostentation, vanity, deception, etc. At the same time it (Tasawwuf) aims at the adornment of the heart with the lofty attributes of repentance, perseverance, gratefulness, fear of Allah, hope, abstention, tauheed, trust, love sincerity, truth, meditation, reckoning, contemplation, etc. In this way, attention towards Allah Ta’ala is inculcated in man. This is in fact the purpose of life. Tasawwuf or Tareeqat is therefore not at all negatory of the Deen and Shariat. On the contrary it is incumbent for every Muslim to become a Sufi (one who follows the path of Tasawwuf). Minus Tasawwuf, a Muslim cannot truly be described as a perfect Muslim
